18-20 June 2010  A taste of Morocco

A quick trip over the weekend to Morocco. We were part of the annual Gibraltar-Morocco rally 2010, organized by the Gibraltar Tourist Board.

The now modern town of Tetouan has a medina (old town) built by Muslim refugees from Spain in the 15th Century. We have taken a guide as the town is a maze and impossible to find your way around, or even worst, out of it! Our guide took us to the local pharmacy, souvenir shops and the souk, but too scared to deal with the Arabs nobody bought anything. Then we visited the Mellah, Jewish quarter, our guide mentioned that Jews , Arabs and Berbers are all living in peace here.

After lunch we headed back to Gibraltar, encountering very rough conditions and 30-40 knots of wind, but our crew loved it! Leon, on the helm, got soaking wet, Ruth also ... Well, for Mike it was just another trip, as he is a veteran...

The tannery. Apparently the Moroccans use gore to treat the leather, the smell was just unbearable...
