25th-29th September

Tarifa is the capital of kite surfing and windsurfing.  The wind blows constantly on this part of the Strait, so much that for some reason Tarifa is also known to have the highest number of suicides, precisely because of the wind. Otherwise the town is Moorish style with an old medina combined with white washed Spanish buildings. It is a Meca for surfers and the like, so during summer the city is crowded with hippies traveling in caravans. For us it was love at first site, the town is vibrant and has escaped the tourist boom which is visible in some part of the Spanish coast.  Costa de Luz is truly Spanish, no sign of English pubs and mass tourism. The beaches are wide,  dotted with Chiringuitos ( beach bars)and sand dunes.
